ii) “That the House urgently legislate to adopt an enforceable Code of Conduct for the New Zealand Judiciary based upon the ‘Bangalore Principles for Judicial Conduct’ which are intended to establish standards for the ethical conduct of judges, and include the following underpinning judicial values and principles: independence; impartiality; integrity; propriety; equality; competency and diligence.”

Penny wants to know WHO had instructed Ross Burns.
AGREED: That Occupy Auckland supports Penny’s request for speaking rights, and wants to know who instructed Ross Burns to oppose ‘new evidence’.

3) That Occupy Auckland concentrate on public ‘outreach’ activities, co-ordinating with as many other interested parties / groups as possible, preferably on a daily basis, including, but not limited to publicizing:

a. Opposition to State-Owned asset sales.
b. Opposition to the NZ Food Bill.
c. Support for the Ports of Auckland workers.
d. Support for the Tamaki Housing Group.

2) INFORMATION: Penny distributed copies of the leaflet explaining the position of Vince Siemer, ‘Whistle-blower’ against the lack of transparency and accountability in the NZ Judiciary, who has been sentenced to 6 weeks jail for publishing on his websitewww.kiwisfirst.co.nz the decision of Judge Winkelmann in December 2010 that the Tuhoe defendants were denied trial by jury, and suppressed her judgment from the public. (There is no law in NZ which allows a Judge to suppress a judgment or the reasons for it).

3) UPDATE: Desmond Wanoa, nephew of John Wanoa, from the Confederation of United Tribes gave an extensive update of latest developments. (Desmond suggested that people check out John Wanoa’s facebook page for details).

4) INFORMATION: Penny gave notice of a DRAFT letter opposing Codex Alimentarius and the NZ Food Bill, and distributed copies for consideration.

4) PROGRESS REPORT BY ARETA REGARDING APPEAL OF J WILSON DECISION 21 DECEMBER 2011 ON GRANTING A PERMANENT INJUNCTION, ON BEHALF OF ‘ASSOCIATES’:

a) As the High Court refused to accept Areta’s appeal, Areta has filed an appeal in the Court of Appeal.
b) Areta has invited those who wish to join to join ‘associates’ in this appeal, or to use Areta as a McKenzie friend to contact him.

5) WAITANGI ARRANGEMENTS:

a) Tanya suggested a hui to discuss protocol / our media beforehand – so Occupy Auckland protestors are properly prepared before
we arrive in Waitangi, that we are united in our approach, although some from OA may be not all be participating in the same events.
Roles and functions needed to be discussed and sorted out beforehand.
It was discussed that there would be protest events as well as a peace march on 6 February

Agreed to have this OA Waitangi hui at the GA to be held on Thursday 2 February 2012.

b) People wishing to travel together to Waitangi to contact Dylan about sharing costs of a hired van. Estimated costs $50 per person for van hire, petrol and expenses will be on top of that estimated $50 van hirage cost.
Agreed to confirm van hireage / OA people going to Waitangi on Thursday 2 February 2012.

‘NOTICE OF PROPOSAL’ put to the Occupy Auckland GA on Sunday 29 January 2012, by Penny Bright.

“That Occupy Auckland endorse/support the draft ‘Action Plan to prevent ‘White Collar crime, corruption and corporate welfare’
For this proposal to be put to the Occupy Auckland General Assembly on Wednesday 1 February 2012.”

It was recognised that a draft ‘Action Plan to prevent ‘White Collar crime, corruption and corporate welfare’, needed more discussion/debate and workshopping by Occupy Auckland.

RESOLVED BY CONSENSUS:

“That Occupy Auckland endorse/support the PRINCIPLE of a draft Action Plan to prevent ‘ ‘White Collar crime, corruption and corporate welfare.”

PROPOSAL from Sunday 29 January 2012, by Penny Bright.:

“Recognising the pivotal role of the Occupy Auckland Media team in formulating our messages(s) and the pivotal role of our Occupy Auckland public facebook page and website in publicising our message – that those holding those positions are elected, in order to prove that they have the confidence of the General Assembly of Occupy Auckland.”

It was suggested that others could join the Media Team, in order to help improve it and help make it more effective.
Lyn and Terri – both current members of the Occupy Auckland Media Team offered that the Media Team was open to anyone who wanted to join it.

New members of the Occupy Auckland Media Team now include Marc, Kathy, Kereru, Tanya and Penny.

Announcements:

Awatea: Matua James is planning to cook hangi and sell them at $5 per meal. He would like to donate 40 to Aotea Square homeless but will need some help to get vegetables. If anyone can help to provide the following please do so:

10kg kumara; 10 kg carrots; 7kg potatoes; 6 kg butternut; 10 kg silver beet; 5 kg yesterday’s bread

Jumbo and Awatea to co-ordinate on this.

Penny: Will be in court at 8.30am on Wednesday and 10am on Thursday. Occupy Auckland welcomes support from anyone who would like to attend. Will be working on document re white collar crime and will bring it to GA at a later date.

Jane: there has been some lack of communication regarding meeting times. This week meetings will be held at Aotea Square at 6pm daily until Sunday. Any information, including minutes, which needs to be shared, should be posted on E-Hive and Occupy Auckland Strategy. This should cover most supporters who have internet access.

Jane: TV3 asked to interview the homeless people in Aotea Square but they declined as they support all Occupy and would rather our own media team did a press release.

Terri: We need more facilitators and to this end, anyone who would like to get involved please meet after the GA.
